What Is Child Insomnia? How To Identify It?There is a common notion that only adults suffer from insomnia. This is not true. Even child insomnia has become very common today. Insomnia is actually a sleeping disorder. A child may have difficulty in falling asleep. He may wake up many times or wake up early in the morning. This very condition with children is called insomnia or sleeping disorder in children. Insomnia in children may be caused due to several factors. Any change in the schedule of a child may be the cause of occasional sleep disorder. Going back to school after the end of the vacation may cause stress in children resulting in sleep disorder as well. Any other school related or family related stress can also cause insomnia among them. Taking too much chocolate particularly just before going to bed can also cause sleep disorder. In addition to it, children with no established routine are also very much prone to teenage insomnia. It usually takes few minutes to 40 minutes to fall asleep. But taking more than 40 minutes is not normal. As per the doctor's estimation it is a symptom of sleep disorder. So, late sleep is also a symptom of insomnia. Identification of the symptoms and traits is most important to go to the root cause. Insomnia in children affects their temperament most. They become irritable, nervous, high strung, intense and very upset. These symptoms are also associated with adult insomnia. Therefore it better to find out if any biological factor is responsible for sleep disorder in a child. Researches are being done to look for any typical cause and symptom of child insomnia. But there is no conclusive report on this till date. Unlike adults children with disturbed sleep may show hyperactivity. Therefore parents should not get confused and rather get their child diagnosed by a doctor. Children need at least 10 to 11 hours of good sleep everyday. But their hectic schedule in school coupled with sports activity and home tasks make them restless. As a result of this routine they can't sleep as much as they should. Nowadays, computer games with violent scenes and television serials have also left children in a very confused state. Children with impressionable mind are quite vulnerable to all these stimulations. They fall victim to stress and loose their sleep. Wise parents can easily manage their children's routine giving them some time for relaxation. They should find time for their children to let them relax well before bed time. Avoiding beverages with caffeine and other tough physical tasks before bed time can also save child from insomnia. A well established bed time may also help them considerably. A warm bath before going to bed and reading for a while also provides healthy sleep to a child.
